The 1X Lacrosse program has been evolving for many years and has been influenced and shaped by many coaches, parents, players at the youth, high school and college levels. Our vision continues to be refined as the local lacrosse landscape (Berkshire County, MA, Washington County, NY Rensselaer County, NY and Bennington County, VT) showed very strong growth in their youth/high school boys & girls lacrosse programs.
Our local lacrosse programs are continuously improving their participation rates and increasingly becoming more competitive outside of their divisions and across state borders. However, to move our programs to the next level, our teams and coaches need to raise the collective level of play by focusing on player and team development. The demographics of our local lacrosse community will continue to present a numbers issue – by joining forces we will be able to continue to improve and develop our players and programs.
Lacrosse players on our teams and in our programs have been showing an increased interest in pursuing lacrosse opportunities year round. These players have also expressed their desires to play lacrosse beyond their high school years and in college. In order to assist these players a local and more regionally focused program makes sense and minimizes costs and overall travel time.
Philosophy: 1X Lacrosse is designed to support our area teams, players, coaches and parents by providing the opportunity, coaching and development needed to bring our collective level of play to the next level. Our goal is to address these increasing needs and demands by providing a local option for our players and community.
The Back Story (our initial press release sums it up nicely)…
Co-Founded by Eric Crawford and Jeff Stripp 1X Lacrosse specializes in lacrosse training for teams and individual players. More than just lacrosse, 1X is a way of life teaching young athletes to make the extra effort and take that extra step towards truly reaching their goals as student athletes. 1X Lacrosse was started by Jeff Stripp, a former All-American at Williams College. Jeff was a defenseman for Williams playing for the legendary Renzie Lamb. Eric Crawford joined shortly after the launch, bringing his lacrosse experience from his playing days at Castleton State College and business background from Under Armour. As high school prep players, Jeff and Eric had successful careers at Choate and Northfield Mt. Hermon respectively.
With the growth of lacrosse in Western, Massachusetts, Southern Vermont and the Rensselaer County Region, the goal of 1X Lacrosse is to provide local lacrosse players year round training and playing opportunities. Jeff Stripp said, “the driving force behind 1X Lacrosse is to raise the level of play throughout youth and high school programs in the geographic areas we serve. He goes on to say, “We hope to provide players at the youth and high school program an opportunity to take their game to the next level.”
The lacrosse training, practices and off season clinics really make up the core of what we do at 1X Lacrosse. We are attracting coaches in the area who are passionate instructors of the game, and believe in the core values of 1X. We feel as though the practices, camps and clinics are truly the area where we can make the most impact on our lacrosse athletes and prepare them to reach their goals for their team and on our 1X teams. Eric Crawford said, “Lacrosse gave me incredible opportunities when I was younger and took me places I might not have gone without it. The game took me to one of the finest prep schools in the country and made it possible for me to be the first person in my family to go to college. Giving back to the game and making lacrosse available in a meaningful way to kids in my area is what it’s all about.“
The student-athletes on our select teams come from a wide range of towns. As an example, our U-15 Team this Summer was made up of players from nine different schools/programs including; Mount Greylock, St. Joseph’s, Monument Mountain, Hoosac Valley in Berkshire County, MA, Burr & Burton and Rutland in Vermont, Cambridge, and Hoosick Falls and the Hoosac School, from New York and Exeter in New Hampshire. “The biggest measure of our success this summer was how this diverse group of players came together as a team and became friends. That’s the environment 1X will continue to foster. More than just a program, it’s a way of life that will create memories that will last a lifetime for our players, Stripp noted.
In the first season our U-15 team had a very successful summer playing at the Yale University Bulldog Classic , Keene Lax Festival at Keene State, NH, Extreme Lax at the Groton School, MA, New England Invitational at Deerfield Academy, MA and the Stowe Lacrosse Festival in Stowe, VT. The team made it to the championship games in two of the five tournaments they played in, coming in 3rd or 4th in the others. Crawford stated, “1X proved to not only be a great for the players, but the parents also had an excellent experience. 1X chose some great tournament destinations allowing parents to see top prep school and college campuses and also got to know other Lacrosse parents and make friends along the way. The summer finale in Stowe was a weekend that the 1X family will never forget. 1X is a lacrosse family experience.”
Keeping the highest level of coaching and instruction in the area is at the forefront of what we do, so for us we are only going to grow our select teams to the point where we can honestly say that each and every team has the best coach that age group has to offer. Our future plans include introducing a girls’ select team as well as offering an overnight camp at the Hoosac School featuring a total 1X experience allowing players to derive a lot more from the programs with recruiting, strength and conditioning, nutrition, mentoring and advanced team concepts included in the curriculum.
